Helvetas Tanzania looks for an enthusiastic colleague for the following post:
Position – Rural Access Expert
Location – Morogoro Region
Focus:
- To develop a mechanisms and modalities for improved rural access to support communities acquire improved access to schools, healthcare facilities, markets, and jobs in rural areas of Tanzania.
- The project promotes the engagement of various actors and ensures that village communities, their governing bodies, Local Government Authorities (LGA) and private sector actors (contractors) at the grassroots are capacitated to plan, implement and maintain access infrastructures (paths, roads, bridges) in areas not reached by the Tanzania Rural and Urban Road Agency (TARURA), and to organize the required resources through their local government structures, but also through own contributions (funds, own labour).
- S/he will contribute to the preparation of the inception phase of the project. The expert will bring together various/key stakeholders, including the targeted village communities, LGA, TARURA, local contractors and potential other (donor) agencies involved in rural access, to jointly plan a pilot initiative which shall be launched in 2025.
- The expert will undertake needs assessments and surveys in the pre-selected areas, and will together with other stakeholders develop a pilot, based on locally driven implementation modalities, including resource mobilization and community participation.
Education:
Master’s degree in civil engineering or related education background.
Professional experience: At least 3 years’ experience in planning, design and delivery of rural infrastructure in a similar context, experience in working with both public and private sector actors, including experience in working with TARURA.
