World Aquatics endorses Tanzania swimming event as qualifier

Dar es Salaam. World Aquatics (WA) has endorsed Tanzania National Club Championship (TNCC) as one of the qualifying events for the World Aquatics Championships.

WA’s endorsement means that TNCC is now open to all swimmers worldwide wishing to secure qualification marks for the world championships.

The TNCC is scheduled to take place from April 20 to 21 at the 25-metre long swimming pool of the International School of Tanganyika (IST) at Masaki in Dar es Salaam.

The event will feature swimmers from Tanzania Mainland, Zanzibar, and other countries meeting the qualifying times and complying with the rules and regulations.

The deadline for clubs to confirm participation is April 5 at 11pm.  Swimmers eligible to compete in the event must have achieved qualifying times between August 1, 2023, and March 2024.

WA’s Senior Sport Manager, Namhee Cho, stated that they have approved the event after meeting the criteria, and swimmers can achieve qualifying standard times “A” and “B”.

Cho added that the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) is required to send official results to the World Aquatics Office at [email protected] within forty-eight (48) hours after the conclusion of the competition.

Apart from the results, TSA also has to submit a certification of the pool measurement certified by a surveyor or any other qualified official appointed or approved by the host member.

“If there are any exceptional circumstances that impact the delivery of the event (e.g., significant delay, last-minute change of venue, etc.), a full report should be sent to the World Aquatics office within twenty-four (24) hours of such an event,” said Cho.

Inviolata Itatiro, TSA Secretary-General, expressed that the move has inspired them to put more effort into developing the game in the country.

She reiterated TSA’s commitment to the game’s development despite the challenges they are facing.

“I thank WA for confirming our National Swimming Club Championships as a world championship qualifier.

“It has increased the value of the game, and we ask stakeholders to continue supporting us,” said Inviolata.

She expressed her confidence in Tanzania’s many talented swimmers who, she believes, will one day make the country proud.
