Wisconsin school on lockdown after active shooter ‘tries to break in’

A district in Wisconsin has been placed in lockdown after an active shooter with a rifle was reported attempting to break into a school.

Police and other emergency services responded to reports of an “active shooter” firing a rifle outside Mount Horeb Middle School, in a village in the west of the state.

An emergency alert released by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office said the person was armed with a rifle and “considered dangerous”.

They were not able to gain access to the inside of the school.

“There is an active shooter in the 900 block of East Garfield Street in Mount Horeb. They are armed with a rifle and are considered dangerous,” police said.

“For your safety stay inside, lock all doors, and avoid the area until further notice.”
