To make sugar cookies, begin by preheating your oven to 350 °F and greasing 2 baking sheets. Cream butter, shortening, and sugar in an electric mixer until it’s light and fluffy, then beat in the egg and vanilla. Next, add in the dry ingredients and stir until everything’s incorporated. Once you have your batter, roll the dough into 1 inch balls and dip them in sugar. Place the balls on your baking sheet and flatten them with the bottom of a glass.
