Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accountant to manage all financial aspects of our construction firm. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing financial reports, providing strategic financial advice, and ensuring that our operations are financially viable. This role is crucial to the growth and profitability of our company, as the accountant will play a key role in financial planning, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
- Ensure all financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Develop, manage, and monitor the company’s budgets.
- Provide financial forecasts to guide business decisions.
- Track and report on budget variances, and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
Cost Management:
- Analyze and report on construction project costs, ensuring cost-effective management of resources.
- Provide detailed financial analysis to support project bids and tenders.
- Oversee the allocation of overhead costs and direct costs to construction projects.
Tax and Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws and regulations.
- Prepare and file tax returns, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations, advising the company on necessary adjustments.
Financial Strategy and Advice:
- Advise management on financial strategy and planning.
- Provide recommendations to improve financial performance and profitability.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks to the company.
Cash Flow Management:
- Manage the company’s cash flow, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operations.
- Monitor and manage accounts payable and receivable.
- Optimize cash flow by ensuring timely invoicing and collections.
Audit and Internal Controls:
- Coordinate internal and external audits.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Identify and rectify any discrepancies or irregularities in financial records.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with project managers and other departments to ensure financial success of construction projects.
- Provide financial training and support to non-financial staff where necessary.
- Liaise with external stakeholders, including banks, auditors, and tax authorities
Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA qualification is a plus).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably in the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of construction accounting practices, including job costing and contract accounting. o Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, etc.).
- Excellent knowledge of financial regulations and accounting standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team. o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
